The Union Catholic girls volleyball team celebrated Senior Day in dominant fashion on Tuesday, defeating Dayton in straight sets (25–11, 25–7) on their home court in Scotch Plains. The victory marked the Vikings' fourth consecutive win, improving their record to 15–6 on the season.
Union Catholic controlled the match from start to finish, fueled by a strong serving performance and a balanced offensive attack. Ayla Burke led the way with 8 kills, while Alyssa Kenol added 5 kills and 3 blocks. Alex Landazabal orchestrated the offense with 12 assists and also chipped in 6 digs and 5 service points.
Behind the service line, Maria Gialanella was outstanding, tallying 10 service points and 2 aces, while Sabrina Capati also delivered 2 aces. In total, the Vikings recorded 8 aces and 24 service points.
Union Catholic honored its seniors before the match, and the team responded with an energized and efficient performance to close out the regular season home schedule on a high note.
The Vikings will look to keep their momentum going as they begin defense of their Union County Championship when they host Plainfield in the second round of the Union County Tournament on Wednesday at UC at 4 p.m.
