Senior Alex Landazabal, Union Catholic's school record holder in career assists, reached another historic milestone on Monday when she surpassed 1,000 assists to help spark the Vikings to a big comeback win over Gov. Livingston, 18-25, 25-13, 25-23, in a thrilling match that avenged an earlier-season loss to the Highlanders.
Landazabal, who has been the heart of UC's offense for four seasons, now owns 1,003 career assists, along with 438 service points, 145 aces, 109 kills, and 344 digs in her remarkable career as a Viking. She finished Monday's match with 13 assists, 12 service points, 9 digs, 3 aces and 3 kills, orchestrating another balanced and determined team performance.
The Vikings (13-6) were powered by Alyssa Kenol and Ayla Burke, who combined for 24 kills to spark the comeback. Kenol led the charge with 13 kills, while Burke added 11 as Union Catholic found its rhythm after dropping the opening set.
Sabrina Capati added 16 assists, 5 digs, and 4 aces, while Sienna Mabee (16 digs) and Mia Taylor (10 digs, 3 aces) provided steady defense down the stretch to secure the victory.
