Senior guard AJ Altobelli scored a game-high 17 points to surpass 1,000th points in his sensational career to lead Union Catholic, No. 13 in the NJ.com Top 20, to a 58-52 victory over No. 11 Elizabeth on Tuesday night at the Dunn Center in Elizabeth.

Altobelli, who reached the milestone with a driving, right-handed layup with 6:42 left in the fourth quarter became the 11th player in Union Catholic history to reach the 1,000 point mark. Altobelli now has 1,003 points in his career and 548 assists!! Malik Moore had 16 points and Yaw Ansong added 13 for Union Catholic (12-6), which scored the final six points of the game to secure the victory.
The victory by UC, now 12-6 on the season, is its second win over Elizabeth this season and ended a long winning streak by Elizabeth at the Dunn Center, which goes back two years.
With the victory, UC, the defending Union County champion, locked up the No. 3 seed in the county tournament.
The Vikings have another big Watchung Division showdown on Thursday vs. No. 4 ranked Plainfield at 5:30 p.m. at Franklin High. The Vikings will be seeking to avenge a tough loss to Plainfied last month.
