The Union Catholic volleyball team tuned up for the state tournament by defeating St. Mary (Rutherford) in their final regular season match on Wednesday in Scotch Plains.
Behind a balanced performance on both sides of the ball, Union Catholic came up with a very impressive straight-set victory over a strong St. Mary squad, 25-20, 25-22, to improve to 19-8.
Alyssa Kenol led the way with 7 kills and an ace for UC. Sienna Mabee recorded 4 kills and a match-best 4 aces, and Ayla Burke and Melanie DeWitt each added 4 kills. Alex Landazabal dished out 9 assists and 2 aces and Sabrina Capati finished with 10 assists. The Vikings totaled 20 kills, 21 assists, 36 digs and 9 aces as a team.

The Vikings earned a home match vs. Donovan Catholic in the quarterfinal round of the South Jersey, Non-Public A Tournament on Friday at 4:30 p.m. in Scotch Plains.
