Union Catholic Sweeps Crosstown Rival Scotch Plains-Fanwood

Playing on its home court, the Union Catholic volleyball team continued its strong season with a straight-set victory over crosstown rival Scotch Plains-Fanwood on Monday, winning 25-18, 25-14 to improve to 11-5 on the season.

The Vikings, who have now won five of their last six matches, controlled the contest from start to finish with balanced play on both sides of the ball. Senior outside hitter Alyssa Kenol led the way with 8 kills and a block, while setter Alex Landazabal orchestrated the offense with 11 assists, 4 digs, and an ace.

Junior Sabrina Capati added 5 assists and 2 aces, and sophomore Sienna Mabee contributed 3 kills and 5 digs in a strong all-around effort. Ayla Burke chipped in with 4 kills and 4 digs, and Hannah Buniak served an ace and anchored the defense with 3 digs.

With the win, Union Catholic strengthened its momentum heading into the final stretch of the regular season as it looks to make another deep postseason run.
