UC girls roll to 11th straight title, boys finish a strong 2nd at county relays

The Union Catholic girls continued their remarkable streak of dominance by extending their record to 11 straight team titles and the UC Elizabeth boys won their second straight championship at the Union County Relays on Saturday at the Jersey City Armory.

There was never a doubt about the outcome of the girls competition as the UC Vikings hoisted up the team trophy for a mind-blowing 11th straight time after scoring a 64-38 victory over runner-up Oak Knoll.

UC, behind double-winner Morgan Holley and Taylor Cox, racked up five victories in the 8 events and threw down a NJ No. 1 time in the shuttle hurdles, and NJ No. 2 times in the 4x200 and sprint medley relays.

In the shuttles, Holley (8.6), Sydney Chadwick (7.7), Abriyah Thompson (8.5) and Cox (7.2) combined to run 31.79! Holley cleared a meet best 5-2 and Cox went over 4-10 to give UC the win the high jump. In the 4x200, Maya WycheTaylor AskaNatalia Thompson and Jola Strayhorn teamed up to win in 1:41.46. Kendall PittmanJacqueline WilliamsJimmiea King and Paige Sheppard shared the baton on the victorious SMR (4:08.04), and the winning DMR featured Ella SolorzanoKendall AskaJasmine Parran, and Emmy O'Hearn.   

In the boys competition, the Vikings placed second behind defending champion Elizabeth, 45-35.,  

The Vikings made their presence felt on the track by winning three of the six races, the DMR (10:49.49), the shuttle hurdles (31.29) and the 4x800 (8:30.26). 

In the DMR, Aidan Cichocki, Kenny Graham, Michael Devine and Danny Kuran combined for the victory. The winning shuttle hurdle team consisted of Chris Wilson (7.5), RJ Ingleton (7.8), Noah Cooper (7.5) and Garth Naar (8.2). In the 4x800, Elijah McCoy, Jeremiah Shepherd, Manny Sanchez, and Nick Frank carried the baton to victory.
