The Union Catholic volleyball program celebrated the life of Anabella Marie Giacobbe with the first ever UC/Bella Kind Volley for Kindness Match vs. Rahway on Saturday in Scotch Plains.

Giacobbe, a 2018 graduate of Union Catholic and a star volleyball player for the Vikings, passed away in September of 2022.

The match, won 2-0 by Union Catholic, was held to remember the remarkable life of Bella, who was a resident of Rahway, and to keep her legacy going strong. During a special ceremony, the No. 8 that Bella wore during her playing days was retired by the UC volleyball program. This act serves as a lasting symbol of Bella's impact, love, greatness and kindness, which she brought to her community and the sport she loved so much. The Volley For Kindness match raised funds to support scholarships established by both the Union Catholic volleyball program and Bella Kind Foundation.

The victory over Rahway by UC, ranked No. 14 in the state, raised the Vikings record to 12-4 on the season. UC has won eight of its last nine matches.
