Behind a dazzling four-goal performance from sophomore Sophie Peterson, Union Catholic rolled to a 7-1 victory over Roselle Park on Monday in the first round of the Union County Tournament to improve to 10-3-1 on the season.

The 11th-seeded Vikings wasted no time taking control, exploding for six first-half goals in a relentless offensive display. Hailey Mullaney opened the scoring in the 12th minute, and Peterson followed with three straight goals in the 19th, 23rd, and 25th minutes — the first assisted by Sienna Parker and the second by Molly Pickel — to give Union Catholic a commanding 4-0 lead.

After Roselle Park's Brianna Appello scored in the 33rd minute to make it 4-1, the Vikings responded immediately. Mullaney netted her second goal just two minutes later off another assist from Pickel, and Peterson completed her four-goal outburst in the 37th minute, assisted by Mullaney, to close the half with UC ahead 6-1.

In the second half, Rebecca Frank capped the scoring in the 76th minute, converting off a feed from Madison Farrell to seal the 7-1 victory.

Peterson now leads the team with 15 goals on the season, while Mullaney added two goals and two assists and Pickel notched two assists. Rylee Curtis made two saves in goal for Union Catholic, which outshot Roselle Park 15-6. Curtis now needs 12 more saves to reach 400 for her career, a milestone that reflects her consistency and leadership in net.

With the win, the Vikings continued their strong late-season form, showing balance, creativity, and poise on both ends of the field.

Union Catholic now advances to the second round of the Union County Tournament, where it will face sixth-seeded Scotch Plains-Fanwood on Thursday.
