Surging UC girls basketball team wins 4th game in a row
The Union Catholic girls' basketball team secured their fourth consecutive win with a hard-fought 47-44 triumph over Oak Knoll on Friday afternoon in Summit. The win pushed their record to 4-1 on the season, showcasing their resilience and great teamwork.
The game started with Union Catholic dominating the first quarter, jumping out to an early 12-4 lead. Oak Knoll came roaring back in the second quarter, narrowing the gap with a 14-point effort, cutting Union Catholic's lead to 18-16 at halftime.
Despite the pressure from Oak Knoll, Union Catholic remained composed, with senior
Gabrielle Ziegenbalg stepping up big, scoring 17 points and pulling down 4 rebounds. Ziegenbalg's steady hand from beyond the arc—hitting three three-pointers—was crucial in maintaining the UC lead in the second half..
The third quarter saw Union Catholic's offense gain steam again, outscoring Oak Knoll 15-12.
