Cameron Kelly had a big day at the plate and she was the winning pitcher to help lead the undefeated Union Catholic softball team to an 8-6 victory over New Providence in the home opener for the Vikings on Tuesday.
Kelly, a junior who threw a no-hitter last week, struck out nine on her way to the complete game victory. At the plate, she doubled, tripled, and drove in four runs.
The Vikings, now 4-0 on the season, jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning and scored twice in the fifth to take an 8-2 lead. New Providence rallied for four runs in the final inning to close out the scoring..
Union Catholic received key contributions from several players.
Sarah Potts had two hits and knocked in a run.
Jessica Sot had two hits and scored a run, and
Jules Hart scored twice for the Vikings.
