UC's Alejandra Gamboa receives the 2019 Sandra Stagg Memorial Scholarship

Alejandra Gamboa, a freshman at Union Catholic, was recognized on Tuesday morning as this year's recipient of The Sandra Stagg Memorial Scholarship.

The scholarship was established by the Stagg family in memory of their daughter Sandra, a member of the Class of 1983 who passed away in a car accident during her senior year at UC.

The Sandra Stagg Memorial Scholarship, given out the same day that Union Catholic hosted a Senior Safe Driving Assembly, is presented each year to one ninth grade student who has demonstrated a commitment to academic achievement and has contributed in a positive way to the Union Catholic Community. The scholarship is renewable over the remaining years at UC.

Gamboa, who is a member of the swim team and the Spanish Club at UC, was honored to receive the scholarship.

"I am just so happy,'' said Gamboa, who lives in Linden. "This is such a great honor. I'm so happy with my choice to come to school at Union Catholic. Everyone here at Union Catholic is here to help you out, and I'm so proud and grateful to receive this scholarship. I feel that I can help new freshmen who come to school here next year and keep helping the UC Community in a positive way.''
