The Foursome of Alexander, Tucker, Evans and Chadwick ran 47.42 to win their heat

PHILADELPHIA - The Union Catholic girls blazed its way into a pair of 4x100-meter relay finals by winning its heat in a school record 47.42 at the 124th Penn Relays on Thursday at Franklin Field.

UC's time of 47.42, which broke the school record of 47.48 set in 2016, qualified the Vikings for Friday's 4x100 Northeast Championship at 2:20 p.m. and Saturday's 4x100 Tri-State Championship at 1:40 p.m. UC was the 12th fastest team among the 625 squads that finished and the fifth fastest among all the U.S. teams. Earlier in the day, UC qualified for Friday's Championship of America race in the 4x800.

Sharing the baton for UC Coach Mike McCabe's 4x100 squad were senior Kira Alexander, sophomore Sydney Tucker, junior Khamil Evans, and senior Amaya Chadwick.

The Purdue-bound Chadwick, who missed most of the indoor season with a hamstring injury, said she feels her team can make a run at the Union County record of 42.07 set by Summit at the Meet of Champions last year.

"I think if we get our handoffs a little better we could go under 47 and that should give a chance to win those races,'' said Chadwick. "We had a great day today and hopefully we can keep it rolling.''
