Union Catholic continued its strong start to the season with a dominant 6-0 win over Plainfield on Saturday in Scotch Plains as the Vikings improved to 2-0 behind an explosive offensive performance coupled with airtight defense.

From the first whistle, the Vikings made their intentions clear. Just four minutes into the match, Gianna Socio opened the scoring off a slick assist from Hailey Mullaney, setting the tone for what would become a relentless offensive onslaught.

Union Catholic doubled their lead at the 9-minute mark when Rebecca Frank found the back of the net. The Vikings continued to press, and in the 15th minute, Sophie Peterson added a third goal, again assisted by the dynamic Mullaney, who was a key playmaker throughout the match.

Before the half ended, Lyric Cummings tallied a fourth goal for Union Catholic in the 27th minute, with Peterson returning the favor by setting up the score.

The second half was more of the same. Just four minutes in, Madison Farrell scored off an assist from Charlotte Donnelly. Barely a minute later, Hailey Mullaney capped off her stellar day with a goal of her own, this time assisted by Sienna Parker, sealing the final score at 6-0.

Stifling Defense and Goalkeeping

While Union Catholic's attack fired on all cylinders, their defense was equally impressive. Goalkeeper Rylee Curtis faced only one shot on goal the entire game and handled it with ease, earning her first shutout of the season.

In contrast, Plainfield struggled to find any rhythm. Their lone shot on goal was easily contained, and goalkeeper Cristauri Santiago was under siege for much of the match, making an impressive 20 saves despite the scoreline.

Union Catholic's balance of scoring—six goals from six different players—demonstrated the depth and cohesion of a team looking poised for a strong season. As they move forward, the Vikings will look to maintain this level of performance, while Plainfield will regroup in search of their first win.
