UC girls soccer team blanks Metuchen

The Union Catholic girls socer team improved to 4-2 on the season with an impressive 3-0 road victory over Metuchen on Thursday afternoon. The Vikings used a strong first half, stellar individual performances, and great goalie play to hand the Bulldogs (5-3) their third loss of the season.

Union Catholic came out sharp on offense, striking early in the first period. Sophomore Sophie Peterson opened the scoring in the 9th minute, giving the Vikings a 1-0 lead. Just six minutes later, Rebecca Frank doubled the lead with a goal off an assist from Hailey Mullaney, making it 2-0 at halftime.

In the second half, the Vikings added an insurance goal in the 38th minute when Madison Farrell found the back of the net. Peterson, set up the play with a crisp assist to seal a standout performance.Defensively, Union Catholic weathered several pushes from the Bulldogs.

The Vikings registered 20 shots on goal, showcasing their balanced attack and aggressive offensive play.

Goalie Rylee Curtis recorded 8 saves in net to earn the shutout, as Metuchen tallied 16 shots on goal, but couldn't break through.
