UC baseball team rolls to season-opening win over Roselle Park

The Union Catholic baseball team broke open a tie game with a huge fourth inning to propel the Vikings to an 11-2 season-opening victory over Roselle Park on Tuesday in Roselle Park. 

Union Catholic got on the board in the top of the first inning when Chris Wilson doubled in a run and Brayden Morrison singled home Wilson.

 After Roselle Park tied the game at 2-2 in the third, UC broke the game wide open in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs on three hits to take a 7-2 lead, Two runs scored on a fielder's choice by Greg Viloria, Morrison and Mikey Pellegrino each singled in a run, and a run scored when Brian McCabe was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Jake Revuelta earned the win for the Vikings on the mound, allowing three hits and two runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out two and walking two. Chris Tortorella tossed two scoreless innings for Union Catholic in relief. The right-handed pitcher gave up one hit, striking out five and walking two.

Union Catholic banged out 11 hits in the game, drew nine walks and stole nine bases!.

Wilson had a big day at the plate for UC with two doubles and three runs batted in. Morrison went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in. Nick Anderson and Pellegrino each collected multiple hits for UC. McCabe, who finished with an RBI and scored twice, and Josiah Sharpe each stole two bases for Union Catholic.

Next up for the Vikings is their home opener against Union on Thursday.
