UC track and field teams sparkle at SJTCA Meet
The Union Catholic track and field teams piled up several victories and produced a flurry of sensational performances at the SJTCA Invitational on Monday night at Ocean Breeze.
In the boys competition, UC's Jaleel Williams won the 200-meter dash in 22.42 and was second in the long jump (21-4), Keandre Kelly ran 50.55 to win the 400, Quintin Clemons won the 800 (1:58.95), and Elijah McCoy finished first in the 3,200 in 9:37.66. Also for the Vikings, Danny Kuran was second in the 800 (2:00.03), Aidan Cichocki was third in the 800 (2:00.62), and Michael Devine ran 4:29.13 to place third in the 1,600.
On the girls side, Taylor Aska led a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 for UC with a winning time of 24.24. Sydney Chadwick was second (24.43) and Maya Wyche was third in 25.15. Natalia Thompson won the long jump for UC with a leap of 18-6. Morgan Holley, the state leader in the long jump at 19-2, continued her super sophomore season as she displayed her versatility by winning the high jump at 5-3 and running a personal best of 8.29, the sixth fastest time in the state this season, to finish second in the 55 hurdles.
Kiara Fleming had a a great all-round meet for the Vikings, placing second in the high jump (5-0), second in the triple jump at 36-4.50, and she was third in the 55 hurdles in a PR of 8.34, No. 8 in the state this season. Emmy O'Hearn (5:08.70) and Ella Solorzano (5:09.66) finished a very strong 3-4 in the 1,600.
