The Union Catholic girls, No. 1 ranked team in New Jersey, showed flexed its remarkable depth when the Vikings won the team title at Saturday's New Jersey Catholic Track Conference Championships at Greystone in Morris Plains.
Despite holding out their top guns, UC still beat a strong field, putting five runners in the top 16 and scored 43 points. Oak Knoll was second with 54.
Freshman Jia Jain led the way with a third place finish in 18:59, senior Joelle Ruccio was right behind in fourth in 19:09, junior Aubrey Devers delivered a huge clutch run in eighth in 19:48, freshman Myra Sakhuja stepped up big time for 12th in 20:29.43, and sophomore Jasmine Parran capped off the scoring by placing 16th in 20:46.14.
UC's sixth and seventh were right there too with Kailyn Brown 17th and Phoebe Mouris 29th.
That is how you win a championship meet without showing your full hand.
This was exactly the kind of performance that elite programs produce, stack stability, pack discipline, depth advantage… then lock down the trophy without burning every match you have.
UC will unleash their full arsenal this Saturday when the Vikings defend their State Non-Public A Championship at Holmdel Park.
