Schorr scores 19 to lead Vikings over Union
Luke Schorr was on fire from long-range as he scored a game-high 19 points to spark Union Catholic, ranked No. 8 in the state, to a 60-54 victory over Union on Tuesday night in Scotch Plains.
Schorr, who connected on four 3-pointers, buried a pair of 3's early in first quarter to set the tone for the Vikings, who jumped out to a big early lead on the way to the victory.
It was a strong bounce back victory for UC, who were coming off a tough, hard-fought 45-41 loss to No. 5 ranked Roselle Catholic on Saturday night.
Several players contributed to the victory for UC, who used a tenacious defensive effort on the way to improving to 5-2 on the season.
Freshman Malik Moore hit two three-pointers and scored 11 points in the game, adding depth to the team's offense. Senior point guard AJ Altobelli also scored 11 points and provided great leadership by controlling the tempo. FK Muntari added another spark for Union Catholic, hitting two three-pointers and contributing 8 points, and Trevor Whitaker chipped in with a couple of timely baskets. Their contributions were vital in keeping Union from making a serious run at taking the lead.
The Vikings will be back in action on Friday at home vs. Chatham at 7 p.m..
