UC swim team wins two meets in 2 two days
The Union Catholic Vikings continued their impressive swim season with a commanding 125-30 win over Dayton/Brearley in Warren on Wednesday, marking their second consecutive victory in as many days.
After defeating Linden on Tuesday, the Vikings extended their season record to 5-1 with a performance that showcased their depth and skill across all events.
Right from the start, Union Catholic set the tone in the 200 Medley Relay, with Normandie Beversluis, Daniel Wilson, Michael Riely, and Zachary Rush, who touched the wall first in 2:00.96.
In the 200 Free, Nicholas Coppola led the charge for Union Catholic, finishing first in 2:42.17, while Ethan Lopes-Moreira and Joseph Grande followed up with second and third-place finishes, respectively. The Vikings' dominance continued in the 50 Free, where Fredrick Armand posted the fastest time of 26.94, leaving Dayton's Adam Zuzarth trailing in second.
Though Dayton had a standout performance from Aman Nayampally in the 200 IM, where he won with a time of 2:43.31, Union Catholic quickly rebounded in the next events. Terry Gould put on a brilliant display in the 100 Fly, posting the best time of 1:02.08, while David Penna led the charge in the 100 Free with a winning time of 1:07.59.
Hope Kennedy also had a stellar performance in the 500 Free, touching the wall first with a time of 6:08.17. The Vikings' depth continued to shine, with James Donnelly and Matthew Sidun finishing second and third, respectively.
The 200 Free Relay saw Union Catholic at their best, as Terry Gould, Normandie Beversluis, Zachary Rush, and Michael Riely secured another victory for the Vikings with a time of 1:49.79. This was just one of many moments where Union Catholic's balanced team effort overwhelmed Dayton.
The Vikings' strong finish continued in the 100 Back, where Dayton's Nayampally claimed victory, but Union Catholic's Abigail Perreault (1:36.29) and Adelaide Dutemple (1:44.47) showed their resilience by finishing second and third. In the 100 Breaststroke, Jenna Lubas triumphed in 1:28.73, leading the Vikings to another victory.
Union Catholic's day concluded with an emphatic performance in the 400 Free Relay. The quartet of Michael Riely, Terry Gould, Normandie Beversluis, and Zachary Rush topped the event with a time of 4:06.89, solidifying the team's commanding 125-30 win.
