UC girls use big late run to defeat Dayton, win 5th straight game
The Union Catholic girls basketball team scored the last nine points to close out a 59-43 victory over Dayton for a 59-43 to extend their winning streak to five games on Thursday in Scotch Plains.
The Vikings, now 9-2 on the season and in first place in the Mountain Division, led 50-43 with three minutes left in the fourth quarter after Dayton's Payton Turnbull's made her second 3-pointer of the quarter. But then sophomore Emly Mattson scored six of her game-high 22 points and senior Gabrielle Ziegenbalg, who finished with 19 points, buried one of her five three-pointers to secure the victory for UC.
Union Catholic will seek its sixth win in a row on Saturday at noon at home vs. Scotch Plains-Fanwood.
