UC boys basketball team rolls past Chatham

The Union Catholic boys basketball team, ranked No. 7 in the state, showed their depth and offensive firepower on Friday night when they secured a commanding 70-53 win over Chatham in Scotch Plains. 

The victory improved Union Catholic's record to 6-2, while Chatham dropped to 7-4.

Union Catholic was led by standout performances from several players, including freshmen Malik Moore, who contributed 16 points and had a strong presence both offensively and defensively.

Senior point guard AJ Altobelli also shined with 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists, anchoring the team's offense with his playmaking and versatility. Senior Yaw Ansong added 8 points and 8 rebounds, further solidifying the Vikings' control on the boards. Additionally, senior Luke Schorr chipped in with 13 points and 2 rebounds.

Chatham led 18-12 in the first quarter, but Union Catholic's eventually wore them down, with the Vikings outscoring their opponent in each quarter. 

Union Catholic's relentless energy on both ends of the floor solidified their status as one of the to teams in the state.

The Vikings will have a big showdown with No. 8 ranked Elizabeth when the two state powerhouses clash on Tuesday night at Union Catholic at 7 p.m..
