The Union Catholic boys basketball team hung on to win a nail-biter over Plainfield, 54-53, on Tuesday night in Plainfield.
The Vikings, who have won three of their last four games to improve to 8-7, were clinging to a one-point lead when Plainfield missed two free throws with five seconds to go in the game. After the second free throw bounced off the rim, UC's
Yaw Ansong grabbed the loose ball as time expired.
Ansong, a 6-11 forward, had a strong game for the Vikings with eight points and 12 rebounds.
AJ Altobelli led the Vikings with 13,
Keyshawn Winchester scored 12,
Raheem Williams scored six points, and
Terrance Wood finished with five points and six rebounds for UC.
